Summary - This book is about young adults wielding magic to save their country from a corrupt government.
Theme -
Corrupt Government. The government in this book is in a military state after recently winning a war. It prioritizes the care of its officials over its citizens, even becoming violent towards the lower class. This causes the rise of rebellion, hoping to overthrow the government so they don't have to suffer any longer.
Romance. The two main characters in the book are the heirs to the leader of the state and the leader of the resistance. They start as enemies, slowly beginning to trust one another as time goes on, eventually letting their love blossom by the end of the book.
Magic. It is the main goal and problem within the novel. Controlling their magic is what the two protagonists are trying to achieve without getting spotted by the state. It's the main characters' primary weapon, enhancing any mundane object they imbue.

Favorite Quote - "Effort can provide what nature withholds" (51). This is one of those cliche but inspiring quotes that you would find on a bumper sticker. I like it because it emphasizes the importance of hard work in tandem with talent.
Argument - Even though the book puts all of the country's troubles onto their leader, I believe most of it is rebellion propaganda, and the corrupt officers are elsewhere within the hierarchy.
